🔺What we’re watching: Avalanche released Avalanche Battle Pass, its gamified NFT collection to connect games across the ecosystem.
🔺Why it matters: Players can earn rewards like in-game NFTs by completing campaigns across various Avalanche-powered games.
As traditional gaming companies start to explore blockchain integration, this pass offers a blueprint for implementing web3 features.
Most traditional games come with a battle pass where players can earn rewards by playing continuously or completing certain quests. The Avalanche Battle Pass brings a familiar gaming concept, but instead is more inclusive since it integrates web3 games across the ecosystem.
A cross-game rewards system could address fragmentation issues in blockchain gaming where players typically can’t carry progress or assets between different games. On the other hand, since the battle pass is free-to-mint, it removes potential financial barriers for new users, while still rewarding existing community members.
🔺The bigger picture: This pass highlights Avalanche’s technical and infrastructure benefits beyond just gaming. Since it rewards users for their progress through multiple games, other sectors like DeFi or collectibles could also implement a similar system.
The model could also inspire appchains to foster user engagement and asset interoperability by enabling cross-platform progress tracking.
