Paying customers: 2,134 (+10.63%)

These metrics are accurate upon publication.

The electric vehicle sector may be seeing more AI-driven, autonomous developments following DeCharge’s $2.5 million seed round, the company announced on Thursday.

The capital will be used to help deliver autonomous AI-powered energy networks for EVs globally. This means DeCharge will expand its network of community-owned charging units across the U.S., Europe, Middle East and emerging markets. It plans to deploy over 3,000 chargers in these regions, DeCharge Co-Founder Mohan Ponnada shared in its recent webinar with Token Relations.

As part of its roadmap, DeCharge also plans to upgrade its flagship charging unit, the DeCharge Beast, by equipping it with an 11kWh charger. The improvement is designed to enhance charging speeds, while supporting advanced features like dynamic pricing and smart routing to reduce congestion and improve user experience. This endeavor will also have support from partners like DePHY Network and GEODNET.

“We are building the energy infrastructure of the future, where anyone can own, deploy, and benefit from energy assets,” Ponnada said in a press release.

The network is pushing its products to help expand global access to powerful charging. In Europe, it is preparing to roll out upgraded 21kWh chargers, Ponnada said.

Today, the EV market faces a growing supply gap as there is currently only one charger available for every 33 EVs, a ratio expected to get worse as autonomous drones, robots and EV adoption accelerate, according to the press release.

“We are working on robotics, so robots will charge without the need for humans,” Ponnada said. “When that happens, we also need machine-to-machine transactions happening in a machine economy.”

This means both machines need to know the authenticity of the transactions, so this is where the network’s messaging layer can come in.

All in all, DeCharge sees these market trends as an opportunity for community-owned networks to play a major role in closing the EV infrastructure gap.
